Description

Our Process and Product

We’ll compost your food scraps and give you rich vermicompost in return. Every 8 pickups we will drop off a complimentary 1/4 gal bag of our premium vermicompost valued at $10. Use it to nourish your houseplants, yard, or garden. One cup per plant 2-4 times a year is all you need. You can opt to donate it to community gardens that we partner with.

Composting is a natural process and it has been occurring for millennia and will continue to do so with or without our help. What we do at Wormies is to work with nature, observe, mimic and harness to reverse the effects of pollution. Soil regeneration and carbon sequestering are some of the environmental benefits of composting with us.

Ours is a tree step process, first we pre-compost our feedstock for 21 days through thermophilic composting that heats up to 100°-140°F. Then we feed the pre-composted material to red wiggler worms. The worms process the material further and finer and add a unique set of bacteria, hormones and enzymes through their gut action. Once worms are done munching we let the pile of finished compost cure for another 60 days and the party continues, beneficial bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes, arthropods and earthworms are present.

Food Scrap Collection

As soon as you sign up for our pickup service we will provide you a bin and instructions. You will keep the bin while you use the service, we will empty it or replace it at every pickup. You will also receive a list of compostables and non-compostables for our type of operation. You will be assigned to one of our routes and we’ll let you know your pickup day.

Our service is year round and it is designed for food waste collection however you can feel free to add yard waste as well in the bucket. Rule of thumb for what to compost with us: any plants or parts of it; fresh, past due, dried, cooked, raw or processed. Any animal parts deemed or once deemed for human consumption; fresh, past due, dried, cooked, raw or processed.

We do not accept bioplastics of any kind or brand. This is to avoid the risk of petroleum based plastics that often times look like compostable plastics and causes confusion and contamination. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to deal with such contamination and we like our soil healthy!

How to select the right size of bin or cart?

Selecting the right curbside bin size can make a world of difference in your weekly waste management routine. From small households to large families, everyone’s compost needs are different. You don’t want to pick a bin that’s too big or too small; it’ll be a hassle to move and store, or you’ll be dealing with overflowing on collection day. It’s all about finding the perfect size for your household needs. Most households generate about 5 gal of food waste per week.

Service Blackout Days

Our service will be off during the following dates and service will not be postponed:

  1. December 23rd to January 2nd
  2. Thanksgiving day, 4th Thursday in Nov
  3. Independence day, July 4th

Weather & Other Cancellations

Any additional service cancellations — including those caused by weather, unsafe road conditions, or other operational issues — will be postponed and customers will be notified by email.

Monthly Billing Clarification

Our monthly subscription pricing is based on a standard service month, which includes up to four days of service (or up to two service days for every-other week plans). Some calendar months naturally contain an extra week or extra service days.

To ensure predictable billing and consistent annual pricing:

 – Extra service days in longer months are offset by the blackout days listed above.

Because we do not charge extra for months with more service days, the scheduled blackout periods help maintain balance across the year.

 – Monthly billing does NOT include additional weeks beyond the standard service schedule.

If a calendar month contains an extra service week, it will either:

  • be skipped automatically, or
  • be offered as an optional paid add-on (when available).

This structure ensures fairness, consistency, and predictable subscription pricing for customers throughout the year.
